¿¡Qué, Diciembre ya?! / What, December already?!

Bueno, yo dije que esperaba no retrasarme mucho con el blog. La lección que hay que sacar es que no soy de fiar con las fechas xD Sí, es 8 de Diciembre y solo he contado mi primer día en Delft que fue el...24 de Agosto! 

Trataré de hacer un resumen. Estar De Erasmus Es Genial. Con letras mayúsculas. Antes de venir a Delft todo el mundo me dijo que es una experiencia genial y he de decir que ha superado todas mis expectativas (hasta ahora, al menos). Estar en otro país te abre la mente, te hace consciente de que el mundo es enorme, y de paso te permite visitar una pequeña parte de él. Además, estar con tanta gente de tantos países diferentes es difícil de conseguir de otra manera.  Todo esto suena muy típico, y es cierto que tiene su parte mala, pero las partes buenas compensan mucho.

Yendo a lo concreto, he aprovechado para visitar unos cuantos sitios! (oh dios mío, va a contarnos todos los sitios en los que ha estado como si nos importara):

Rotterdam and its weird buildings

Amsterdam: esta visita es prácticamente obligatoria! Sólo he estado en la parte vieja (la más turística), y tiene un ambiente a la vez muy tranquilo, puedes pararte sin más a mirar los canales mientras paseas (es genial en otoño), y a la vez muy extremo, con coffeeshops y sex-shops por todos lados, el tranvía tocando la campana para que te apartes del medio de la vía, que coincide normalmente con el medio de la calle, y las bicis esquivando peatones (en realidad es al revés). Para mucha gente Amsterdam = maría y prostitutas, pero hay más Amsterdam que eso, y es genial descubrirlo.

Rotterdam: que es mucho más bonita de lo que la gente dice (hipster Elendor :P). Es cierto que es industrial, y se nota, pero no es para nada fea, aunque a veces la arquitectura moderna no tenga el mismo encanto que la más antigua. Además tienen muchas más estatuas divertidas que en Amsterdam! (entre ellas una de Erasmus de Rotterdam, gracias!)

Bruselas: regreso a Bruselas! Una chica francesa muy maja nos invitó a la casa que un amigo suyo le había dejado porque no iba a estar ese fin de semana, uno no puede negarse a una invitación como esa! Aunque ya conocía Bruselas, me encantó volver, oler a gofre en cada esquina y echar unas cervezas en el Delirium Tremens. De paso vi algunos sitios que no tuve tiempo en mi primera visita como el Palacio

Real, el Warandepark y la Biblioteca Real. 

Lieja y Gante: las dos en el mismo fin de semana, brutal xD 
A Lieja fuimos específicamente a ver la Nocturne des Couteaux de la Citadelle. El primer sábado de Octubre iluminan toda la parte antigua con velas, y celebran un festival. Y merece mucho la pena ir a verlo, la parte medieval de Lieja es

muy bonita. Y bailar Gangnam Style con muchos belgas borrachos bajo la lluvia también merece la pena xD
Sobre Gante, fue mi segunda vez también, y sigue teniendo una de las partes viejas más impresionantes que he visto hasta ahora (que vale, no son muchas :P). Y un montón de descuentos para estudiantes!

Luxemburgo: las 6 h que se tarda en llegar en tren desde Rotterdam merecieron la pena porque teníamos un conciertazo esperándonos, Opeth y Anathema! Luxemburgo tiene unas vistas impresionantes, ya que está construida en un valle, pero aparte de eso tiene pinta de ser un poco aburrida para vivir.

Futuros planes de visitas incluyen Utrecht, Leiden, Breda, Tilburg y Maastricht (carnaval!!). Y una visita a Alemania con Colonia como objetivo :)

Respecto a Delft, subí a la Nieuwe Kerk (Iglesia Nueva) desde la que se puede ver La Haya e incluso Rotterdam. También fui a la Museumnacht, una noche al año en la que se puede entrar a todos los museos de la ciudad e ir en barco por los canales por el módico precio de 3 euros. Y la visita de Sinterklaas, el señor que trae regalos a los niños de Holanda y Bélgica y viene de...España! Como buenos holandeses seguimos su barco con las bicis y fuimos a ver como le recibía el alcalde en la plaza mayor xD

Y otras cosas interesantes (o no), estoy aprendiendo holandés (al parecer en español el nombre correcto es neerlandés pero poca gente lo usa de todos modos) y un poco de turco (que va mucho más despacio porque no voy a un curso xD)
También estoy haciendo un proyecto final de carrera, pero a quién le importa eso, no? :P

En otra entrada, más tonterías diversas como pensamientos sobre la vida del estudiante de intercambio, Holanda, y otras cosas que se me ocurran, espero que antes de 2 meses.

Ghent has an awesome castle

Well, I said I hoped not to defer the blog too much. We can learn from this that I am not to trust with dates. Yes, it is the 8th of December and I have only told about my first day in Delft which was...the 24th of August!

I'll try to be brief. Being On Erasmus Is Awesome. With capital letters. Before coming to Delft everybody told me that it is a fantastic experience, and I must say that it has overcome all that I expected (until now, at least). Being in another country opens your mind, it makes you conscious that the world is huge, and it allows you to visit a small portion of it. Besides, there are few ways more to meet so many people from so many different countries. This all sounds so typical, and it's true that it has its bad parts, but the good ones make for it, really.

Going to the point, I seized the opportunity to visit several places! (oh gods, he is going to tell us about all the places he has been to as if we cared):

Amsterdam: this visit is nearly compulsory! I have only been in the old part (the most turistic) and it has a sometimes very quiet ambient, you can just stop to watch the canals while you take a stroll (it is awesome in Autumn), and sometimes very extreme, with coffeeshops and sex-shops everywhere, the tram ringing its bell to warn you to get out of its way, which is usually the same as the middle of the street, and the bikes avoiding pedestrians (oh wait, it is the other way around). For a lot of people Amsterdam = weed and prostitutes, but there is a lot more Amsterdam than that, and it is wonderful to discover.

Rotterdam: which is more beautiful than people says (hipster Elendor :P). It's true that it's industrial, but it's not ugly at all, though sometimes modern architecture has not the same charm as old one. Besides, they have more funny statues than Amsterdam! (among them, one of Erasmus of Rotterdam, thanks!)

Brussels: return to Brussels! A French friend invited us to the house of a friend that has lent it to her, one does not simply say no to and invitation like that! Even though I already knew Brussels, I loved to return, smell waffles in every corner and take some beers in Delirium Tremens. Besides I saw some places I didn't have time to visit in my previous stay, like the Royal Palace, the Warandepark and the Royal Library.

The first Saturday of October they light all the old part with candles, and they make a party. It is totally worth it, the medieval par of Liège is very beautiful. And dancing Gangnam Style with a bunch of drunk Belgians is also worth it xD
About Ghent, it was my second time there, and I still find its old part one of the most impressive I've ever been in (ok, they are not so many :P). There are also a lot of discounts for students!

Luxembourg: the 6h it took by train to get there were worth it because we had an awesome concert waiting for us there, Opeth and Anathema! Luxembourg has pretty impressive sights due to being placed in a valley, but apart from that it looked a bit boring to live in.

My future plans include Utrecht, Leiden, Breda, Tilburg and Maastricht (carnival!). And a visit to Germany with Köln as destination :)

In Delft, I climbed to the top of the Nieuwe Kerk (the New Church) from where you can see The Hague and even Rotterdam. I also attended the Museumnacht, a night where all the Museums are open and there is a boat tour around the canals of Delft, with a funny show included from some students, all for 3 euro xD And the visit of Sinterklaas, the man that brings gifts to Dutch and Belgian kids and comes from...Spain! As true Dutch wannabes we followed his boat along the river with our bikes and we went to see the mayor receiving him in the Main Square.

Another set of interesting things (or not), I am learning Dutch and a bit of Turkish (which goes much slower as I am not attending a course for it xD).
Also I am making my master thesis, but who cares about that anyway :P

In another entry more silly things like thoughts about the life of an exchange student, the Netherlands, and more things that will come to my mind, I hope before 2 months.
